Navy Days 2010, one of the biggest public events in the Royal Navy's calendar, will be held at Portsmouth Naval Base from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August.
Supported by BAE Systems, the three day event gives the public a rare opportunity to explore behind the scenes of Portsmouth Naval Base, get on board the Royal Navy's ships and meet the sailors who serve our country.
The Royal Navy's newest ships, the Type 45 destroyers, HMS Daring and HMS Dauntless, promise to be the stars of the show. The will be joined by a further 11 vessels of the modern surface fleet, including Type 23 Frigates, HMS Richmond and HMS Westminster, as well as the aviation training and casualty receiving ship, RFA Argus.
The event include a host of spectacular stunts to wow the crowds, with aerial displays from the Black Cats helicopter and Black Knights parachute teams and daring re-enactments of anti piracy operations performed by the Royal Marines and BAE Systems small boats' team, plus many more.
Performing throughout the event will be the Royal Marines Band and the Rose and Thistle Pipe Band and the Royal Navy's Field Gun teams will compete in a modern day version of the traditional gun run.
Deputy Naval Base Commander, Captain Paul Lemkes, said: "Navy Days is a fantastic opportunity for the Royal Navy to be able to show the public, close up, the capabilities it contributes to UK Defence. The line-up of ships will give visitors a true feel of the wide variety of tasks carried out and I am particularly delighted that we have two Type 45 destroyers on show in their home port so that visitors will be able to see how the Royal Navy is maintaining its place at the forefront of maritime operations with this cutting edge class of warship."
The world-class attractions of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Mary Rose Museum and HMS Warrior will all be open to the public throughout the weekend.
As the UK's leading provider of surface warships and the Royal Navy's long-term partner in the operation of Portsmouth Naval Base, BAE Systems is a proud to sponsor Navy Days 2010 and is committed to supporting the Royal Navy to ensure it can fulfill its role around the globe, today and tomorrow.
