The Big Bang
UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair
As part of the Company's commitment to education activities with a science and technology focus, BAE Systems is once again sponsoring the Big Bang Fair. The Fair, taking place from 11-13 March at Manchester Central Convention Centre, will be the UK's biggest celebration of science and engineering under one roof, with around 15,000 students expected to attend over the three days.
The Fair, which hosts the finals of the National Science & Engineering Competition, will celebrate young people's achievements in science and engineering during 2009 and will encourage young people of all ages to do more with science, technology, engineering and maths, (STEM), at school and beyond. There will be more that 120 interactive activities, exhibitions and live shows taking place over the three days. Lead acts include live performances of television's 'Bang Goes The Theory' and 'Brainiac Live' shows, as well as a BAE Systems theatre show on the 'Secret Life of Robots'.
BAE Systems is lead sponsor of the event along with AstraZeneca, Shell and Siemens. Young visitors to the joint BAE Systems and RAF stand will get the chance to meet Brains, the robotic character who morphs from a Bowler Wildcat, who will help to demonstrate how the Company uses STEM in its everyday business. They will also get the chance to fly in a Typhoon cockpit and try on Body Worn Antennas technology.
